Award-winning students from the 2024 School Show.
High school students will be eligible for several awards. Ringling College of Art and Design is awarding two $10,000 scholarships and State College of Florida is awarding a one year, full-tuition scholarship. Ringling College is also offering $255 certificates to be applied toward the teen studio program or pre-college courses at the college.
“[The art show is] one of the most inspiring times of the year,” said Christina Baril, exhibitions director at Art Center Sarasota. “To see our galleries come alive with the color, energy, and imagination of young artists is deeply moving. This show is a joyful reminder of the creativity and talent thriving in our next generation.”
Other awards include a $200 Best in Show prize for a senior from the Education Foundation of Sarasota County; two $300 prizes from Art Center Sarasota; a $100 prize from Art & Frame Sarasota; a $100 prize from the Sarasota Art Education Association; $100, $75 and $50 awards from Arts Advocates; and a $100 prize from the Sarasota Art Education Association.
Students from 15 elementary, five middle, six high schools and three combination schools throughout Sarasota County are showing off their creative talents at the North County K-12 Spring Art Show on April 29 through May 10 at Art Center Sarasota.
Nearly 50 teachers are part of the effort. Debra Markley, Sarasota High School’s art department chairperson, and Angela Hartvigsen, the fine arts program specialist for Sarasota County Schools, are leading the effort. The North County Art Show (Art Center Sarasota, 707 N. Tamiami Trail) is presented in conjunction with the South County Art Show at the Venice Art Center (May 6-15) to comprise Sarasota County Schools’ Spring Art Show.
“The Spring Art Show is a celebration of student voice, creativity, and the power of community support for the arts,” Hartvigsen said. “Our longstanding partnership with Art Center Sarasota has been instrumental to the success of the North County Spring Art Show. It gives our students a rare and meaningful opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional gallery and to be part of a community that truly values and uplifts arts education.”
